MoTIE STAFFS ON A MEETING WITH THE GHANA ARMED FORCES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE (GAFCSC) HELD ON WEDNESDAY APRIL 19, 2017 AT MOTIE CONFERENCE ROOM
Admin1

The meeting opened with silent prayers chaired by Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mr. Lamin Dampha, who welcomed the guests and thanked them for their visit to MOTIE. The floor was then passed on to the Team Leader of the GAFCSC delegation who stated that their visit to the Ministry is part of the college’s mandate to take students on research trips to various African countries. The theme for this year, he stated, is “emerging case studies in Africa” with emphasis on the security challenges and lessons learned from The Gambia as a case study. He also noted that one of the takeaways of this meeting would be to learn about how socio-economic issues feed into the security challenges as far as trade, industry, regional integration and employment are concerned.
The team leader initiated the discussions by giving the floor to Mr. Ousman Bojang, Principal Trade Economist, to give a presentation on the socio-economic aspects of The Gambia within the context of trade, regional integration, industries and employment. In his presentation, Mr. Bojang, gave an overview of the trade and investment environment of The Gambia, detailed the current regional integration activities being implemented, and highlighted the strides being made towards addressing employment issues in the Gambia. Mr. Bojang concluded his presentation by outlining some of the challenges faced in the Gambia as far as MOTIE is concerned. These include:
 Limited aid for trade resources to implement trade related projects
 The Gambia’s limited technical capacity to negotiate multilateral trade agreements
 The sustainability of the fiscal incentives given by GIEPA to investors
 Access to reliable data on employmen
